Important Notes
Be prepared.
Mountain weather
Weather at Furka Pass can change rapidly. Thunderstorms and cold snaps are possible even in summer. Always check the forecast before your trip: meteoswiss.admin.ch.
Equipment
Sturdy footwear, a waterproof layer and a warm top are essential — even in sunshine. A detailed gear list is sent after your inquiry.
Getting there by public transport
Train to Realp (MGB), then PostBus to Furka Pass (summer only). Details: postauto.ch or sbb.ch.
Check road conditions
Even in summer, Furka Pass can close at short notice. Always check current conditions before driving: alpen-paesse.ch. In bad weather, postpone — steep hairpins, exposed road, variable surface.
Who this is for
This is not a holiday resort.
You want real movement in real mountain terrain — not a spa with a mountain view.
You value quality, but don't need excess.
You travel with intention — not just to have been somewhere.
You want to leave feeling like something actually happened.
✕ If you expect a pool and evening entertainment, this isn't it.
Why Furka Basecamp
What's different here.
01
Location, not lobby
Deep in the high Alps. No transfer time to the trailhead. No shuttle. Routes start here — and that's the whole point.
02
Not mass tourism
We keep groups deliberately small. Not as a marketing promise, but because it's the only way to protect the quality of the experience.
03
Honest accommodation
No effort spent on aesthetics without substance. Quality where it counts: sleep, food, quiet. The rest is distraction.
04
Local knowledge that matters
We know this area from years of experience, not maps. That means better route decisions, early reads on weather and conditions — and paths no guidebook shows.
What might make you hesitate
Honest answers.
Do I need to be an experienced mountaineer?
No. But you should be self-motivated. Basic fitness and genuine interest are enough. We adapt the routes — but we don't organise you.
Is this too basic?
Basecamp means no compromise on what matters. Clean, real, properly equipped — without extras that add nothing. It's not a luxury hotel. It's better.
Am I welcome as a solo traveller?
Yes. Many people come alone. The format encourages connection — without forcing it.
Is the location too remote?
The Furka area is in the high Alps — not around the corner. That's not a weakness; it's what makes the experience possible. We'll walk you through access and logistics personally before you book.
